The lack of a good NPR station here in Asheville is pushing us towards the purchase of a satellite radio...Anybody got anything to say on that? Since we want the NPR, it has to be Sirius.
UPDATE: What I really want is a radio with TiVo capability...who's going get on that development and make a fortune?

I hate those types of NPR stations. We had one of those here for years and they finally started carrying all the good shows about 6 or 7 years ago.
Although the merger has been approved, I suppose you still have to subscribe to one or the other at this point? Until they get their operations merged.
Oh, if you can get streaming audio over your internet connection, you could listen to our NPR station at www.wjct.org.
We can listen to our old NPR station (Michigan Radio) online, but that's not always convenient, and is no good in the car.
What sucks is even the combined lineup of shows on Sirius is not nearly as good as what we had in Ann Arbor.
No "All Things Considered?" WTF? And how many times a day do I need to listen to Diane Rehm and Terry Gross?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read Mrs. F say there was no NPR! I've now added that to my list of "Mandatory Criteria" for all future moves.
No words of advice on satellite radio. I've had a few rental cars with it and enjoyed it but never had a compelling reason to subscribe and buy the hardware.
Aren't Sirius and XM merging? So you'd be getting both, right? Rickey's still a terrestrial radio guy at the moment.
I think Chris is right. They can merge, but for now, you gotta pick one.
I drive a GM, so I have XM; it's standard on GM vehicles. XM has BBC, which I like a lot, but is missing NPR (it does have a public radio kinda thing, but it's no NPR). XM does have Baseball, NHL and Big 10 channels. But NFL I think in Sirius. Sirius has Howard Stern, but I am not a big fan of his. Same shit, over and over and over. How many dumb strippers can you interview before it gets old?
DEb, there's NPR, just not a talk radio/NPR shows all day NPR.
There is a station that has some NPR morning stuff, but then goes to classical music...and another one that plays All Things Considered at the end of the day, but cut it off at 6:00 and goes to NPR's "Speaking On faith" or some shit. Like I can't roll the dial in either direction on either AM or FM and comeup with plenty of fucking "faith."
Our NPR in Ann Arbor was almost perfect with it's lineup. And on Saturdays it had a Murderer's Row of Car Talk (live), What Da Ya Know?, This American Life, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, and then the previous week's Car Talk rebroadcast. Then Prarie Home Companion finished the evening.
You could turn on the radio at any time and have something good on.
if you go to the iphone, you can get an app called tuner for like 5 bucks and supposedly(i haven't downloaded it yet) you get several npr stations with good programming.
